Pop-Up Art Loop -- Chicago Loop Alliance's program that activates vacant Loop storefronts with temporary art exhbitions -- is featured as one of the 40 entries in the 2012 Placemaking Chicago Contest.

Placemaking, as you may recall from last week's post, is a term used by planners to describe the process of "creating a sense of place through creative thinking and activation of an area." While Pop-Up Art Loop has been one of Chicago Loop Alliance's signature programs since 2009, the Placemaking Committee was formed last year to seek additional ways to enrich the public’s experience of the urban environment. Membership consists of urban planners, architects, property owners, academics, technologists, and other downtown stakeholders.

The public is invited to vote through October 5. The people's choice award winner will be announced on November 1, along with the grand prize winner and runner-up as selected by representatives from Chicago’s arts, architectural, and planning community.
