"Holy eyeball": Reaction to Chicago’s latest public art display

(Chicago Tribune) Crowds lay eyes on Chicago artist Tony Tasset’s 30-foot-tall eyeball, known simply as "Eye"Even as an optometrist, Silvia Pelini wasn’t prepared for the mammoth eyeball that is Chicago’s latest public art display.
"My honest first reaction that came out of my mouth when I saw it was, ’Holy eyeball,’" said Pelini, who pretty much stares at eyeballs all day at her practice just two blocks from State and Van Buren streets, where the sculpture now stands.
Within 24 hours of installing the last piece of the structure — more than a week before the official unveiling — "Eye" is already drawing crowds of the camera-wielding, can’t-believe-I’m-staring-at-an-eye type. Intrigued, most stop and gaze at a sculpture that gazes right back.
